Last month the National Family Preservation Network (NFPN) offered free sample kits from our two fatherhood training packages. We are pleased to report that we were inundated with requests for these materials, including requests from many of the states where we had previously had no contacts.

Briefly, NFPN offers two family assessment tool training packages, one for intact families and one for families where reunification is taking place following out-of-home placement of a child. The assessment tools measure family functioning at case opening and case closure. The tools have been found valid and reliable when used with intensive services over a 4-8 week time period.

The training package for each tool contains the assessment scale (which may be reproduced), a database for computerizing opening and closing scores (requires Microsoft Access 2000), a video with case examples illustrating how to complete all items on the scale, and other instructional materials. Over 100 agencies nationwide and in Canada and Australia have purchased the training packages. The reunification tool, NCFAS-R, has been endorsed by CWLA in its Research to Practice Initiative.
