Resources and Plans for 2007 PDF Print E-mail
In January 2007, the National Family Preservation Network (NFPN) launched the NCFAS-G Scale and Training Package. We’re off to a good start with nine agencies purchasing the training packages. We plan to obtain additional data from purchasing agencies to further establish the reliability and validity of the scale.

The NCFAS-G scale joins the family of NFPN’s assessment scales and training packages; others include the NCFAS (for intact families) and the NCFAS-R (for families who are reunifying). Last year, over 80 agencies purchased training packages for the NCFAS and the NCFAS-R.

Training packages for the NCFAS and the NCFAS-R were first introduced in 2002 and since then NFPN has wanted to do additional research on the tools. That will now be possible through a grant from the Annie E. Casey Foundation. The research will focus on Intensive Family Preservation Services (IFPS) and Intensive Family Reunification Services (IFRS) programs that use the NCFAS and NCFAS-R. In addition to obtaining data from 8-10 agencies, NFPN plans to conduct a nationwide survey on IFPS and IFRS programs. We expect to have the survey completed and ready for distribution within the next month.

NFPN is working with several agencies that were awarded federal Responsible Fatherhood grants to provide training for practitioners who work with fathers. NFPN has Basic and Advanced Fatherhood Training Curricula available to assist practitioners in engaging and involving fathers in their children’s lives. In addition, NFPN is the lead organization in the Working with Fathers Institute. The Institute offers comprehensive, fee-based resources and on-site training in the areas of

  • training practitioners on father involvement,
  • developing effective fatherhood support groups,
  • marriage and parenting education,
  • domestic violence, and
  • reaching out to Hispanic and Native American fathers.
