Welcome to the National Family Preservation Network

NFPNOur mission is to serve as the primary national voice for the preservation of families through Intensive Family Preservation and Reunification Services (IFPS & IFRS). NFPN has developed a comprehensive fatherhood initiative, because fathers are an integral part of families. We believe that children deserve to remain safely with their families when possible, and that all efforts must be made to reunite children with their families, when it is safe to do so.

NFPN provides the vision, leadership, training, tools, and resources to assist policy makers and practitioners to build on a family's strengths and to preserve family bonds so children can be protected and nurtured at home.

Please take a little time to read through our Web site. Below you will find some of our current articles and news stories, or watch our short introduction video. Thank you.

IFPS Summit PDF Print E-mail
The National Family Preservation Network (NFPN) is pleased to announce that the Annie E. Casey Foundation will provide funding for NFPN to host an IFPS Summit in the fall of 2008. In the works for several years, the purpose of the Summit is to bring together representatives from state child welfare agencies with strong Intensive Family Preservation Services (IFPS ) programs to discuss:
  • How states have maintained and funded IFPS over the past 15 years
  • Essential components of IFPS programs
  • How to strengthen and expand IFPS programs within IFPS states and establish IFPS programs in other states
  • How IFPS has been applied to reunifying families
  • New measurement tools for determining the effectiveness of IFPS and findings
  • Operationalizing new research findings on IFPS

In preparation for the Summit, to be held in Louisville, Kentucky, NFPN will prepare a summary of the current research on IFPS and its implications for the field. In addition, NFPN will propose a model for intensive reunification services to be tested nationwide.

As usual, NFPN is requesting your input and assistance. There has been turnover in state-level program managers of IFPS in the past year. We especially need a contact at the state level for IFPS services in Maryland.

Development of a paper on current research and findings for IFPS is well underway. More information is needed on current models of Intensive Family Reunification Services (IFRS). If your state, county, or agency has a strong model of IFRS, preferably with evaluations to support its effectiveness, please share a detailed description of the model with NFPN.

Note that participation in the Summit is by invitation only. However, be assured that NFPN will share both the pre-Summit paper and the findings and recommendations from the Summit.

To submit a detailed description of an IFRS program, please e-mail Priscilla Martens, Executive Director of NFPN, at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
