Reunification Program Characteristics |

|
|
The National Family Preservation Network promotes family reunification programs based on Intensive Family Preservation Services. Family reunification programs share the same philosophy and many of the same characteristics as IFPS programs. NFPN believes that reunifying children quickly with their families, when it is safe to do so, is as essential as preventing placement. The following are family reunification program characteristics:
- Staff is available 24/7
- Staff meets with family within 72 hours of referral
- Staff routinely meets with family on evenings and weekends
- Small caseloads (2–4 families)
- Intensive services (5–20 hours per week)
- Time limited (60–90 days)
- Child returned to family within two to four weeks of referral
- Regular visitation between parents and child prior to reunification
